Anthony Nti’s Da Yie has grabbed the top prize at this year’s Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival. Da Yie previously also took home awards at both Film Fest Gent and the International Short Film Festival Leuven. Both Screen International and the Les Arcs Film Festival call Nti a talent to keep a close eye on.
Living in Flanders where he arrived as a kid from Ghana, Anthony Nti went back to his native country to direct Da Yie. In the 20-minute short, a foreigner in Ghana gets an assignment from his gang to find kids for a risky job that will take place later that evening. While spending the day with Prince and Matilda, two energetic youngsters, he starts to question his decision and how it will affect their lives. Nti wrote the script together with Chingiz Karibekov. They also produced the film for Rondini, in association with Caviar.
Da Yie stars Prince Agortey, Matilda Enchill and Goua Grovogui, while DOP is Pieter-Jan Claessens. Frederik Vandewalle was responsible for the editing while Vincent Rurangura Struelens signed for the sound.
