CONNeXT moves to Antwerp in 2020

CONNeXT, the export platform dedicated to film and TV drama made in Flanders, is moving to Antwerp for its fifth edition in 2020. The fourth edition is coming to a close in Ghent tomorrow, and has attained a record number of 300 participants from Belgium and abroad.

Since its first edition in 2016, CONNeXT has steadily grown into an influential event for the Flemish audiovisual sector, where Flemish content and talent is put on the international film and television industry’s radar from an early stage. The past few years, hit movies and TV series such as Lukas Dhont’s Girl (Caméra d’Or in Cannes), Tim Mielants’ Patrick (awarded in Karlovy Vary and Fantastic Fest), Tabula rasa, Studio Tarara and Undercover (available on Netflix) have been presented at CONNeXT.

Each year in October, around 100 international film and TV industry professionals are invited for an intense three-day programme of presentations and screenings of Flemish films and series, meetings with directors and producers, and networking opportunities with the Flemish audiovisual industry. In addition, a conference programme titled CONTeXT provides space for reflections on the industry’s future.

This year a total number of 51 productions (feature films, feature-length documentaries and TV series) were presented in various stages of production: from projects in development to works in progress and recently finished productions. New film projects were presented by such filmmakers as Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Hans Herbots, Veerle Baetens and Robin Pront, and new TV projects by Panenka, Eyeworks and De Mensen were pitched.

The list of international guests attending this year’s edition of CONNeXT includes festival directors and curators from Berlin, Cannes, Edinburgh, Karlovy Vary, Locarno, Rotterdam, San Francisco, San Sebastián, SXSW, Toronto and Tribeca, in addition to sales agents and distributors, broadcasters and streamers, producers and co-producers. CONNeXT has also attracted representatives from the American Film Institute (AFI), the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and European Film Promotion (EFP).

CONNeXT is an initiative of Flanders Image, a division of the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF), in association with Screen Flanders, and in collaboration with Sabam for Culture, Creative Europe Mediadesk Vlaanderen, Screen Brussels, Lites, Flow, Omnia Travel, Pillows and Film Fest Gent. Media partners are C21 Media, Le Film Français and Screen International.
