CONTeXT Announces Keynote Speakers
Philip Knatchbull (CEO Curzon), Rikke Ennis (CEO REinvent Studios) and Marianne Furevold-Boland (executive producer NRK Drama) are this year’s keynote speakers at CONTeXT, the conference programme that is part of CONNeXT. Wendy Mitchell, a.o. contributing editor of Screen International, is confirmed as moderator. Participants in the two panels are to be announced in the weeks to come.
In 2006 Philip Knatchbull brought together three companies and merged them into Curzon, joining the group from his previous role as CEO of Knatchbull Communications, a telecoms, media and technology investment fund. Curzon is the UK’s leading independent integrated film company winning the BAFTA award for outstanding British contribution to cinema in 2017. With over 500 films in its catalogue, its expanding cinema chain, and its fast developing on-demand film service, Curzon is using its 85-year-old iconic cinema brand to disrupt the old business models in order to provide customers with new films when and how they want them. This is unique in the UK.
Rikke Ennis launched Trust Film Sales’ TV distribution division when she joined the company in 1999. Following the merger between Nordisk Film and Zentropa in 2008, which led to TrustNordisk, she was appointed CEO of the new company, the biggest sales agent in the Nordic region. As of 2014 she was on the Board of Directors at Zentropa. In 2018, Ennis started her own company, REinvent Studios, specialised in packaging, developing, financing and co-producing various projects, including local and international TV series, feature films and web series. The company offers a range of financial products such as cash flowing, bridge financing, equity and gap investments. Reinvent International Sales functions as a sales agent for both in-house and high-profile projects out of Scandinavia. She is also involved in NutAlone, a revolutionary online digital distribution platform aimed at unifying the fragmented audiovisual industry and giving more exposure to European content worldwide.
Marianne Furevold-Boland was the producer of the web-drama series SKAM, and is now an executive producer at NRK Drama. Besides currently working with different projects both in development and in production at NRK. She also oversees the various Skam re-makes that are being produced in more than eight countries around the world. Marianne has worked in NRK for many years and has been working on various project as a producer, script doctor, writer, journalist and presenter, both in television and radio. She also gives work-shops in insight work as a tool for developing scripts, and the production method on shortforms. She is educated as an actor from LIPA, Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.
Wendy Mitchell is a journalist, moderator and film festival consultant. She is a contributing editor at Screen International (where she previously served as editor in chief) and is the editor of the European Film Academy’s Close-up magazine. She is the Nordic and UK delegate for the San Sebastian International Film Festival, a consultant for the Zurich Film Festival and Zurich Summit, Connext by Flanders Image, Goteborg’s Nordic Film Market and TV Drama Vision, and CPH:DOX. In the US, she previously worked on staff at Entertainment Weekly, indieWIRE, Time Inc and Rolling Stone.
